Friending Policy:
This journal contains a combination of public and friends-locked entries. Feel free to friend at will. I will generally reciprocate without question when a journal is an obvious fandom or private journal, but not if a journal is empty, near-empty or otherwise suspicious. If you want me to add you back, especially if those latter qualities apply to your journal, please comment here so that I know you're not just another spambot.

The Book: Star Trek: The New Voyages, edited by Sondra Marshak and Myrna Culbreath
The Review: This is a collection of short stories written by fans that was professionally published with a foreword by Gene Roddenberry and individual story introductions written by the TOS cast members. The quality is a bit up and down, but the better pieces are well worth a read, and not only for the enormous amounts of slashy content that made it into publication :D
The Fannish Stuff: I just can't get past how fantastic it is that the Trek folk embraced fandom and fanfiction in this way. As someone who has been involved with fandom for over a decade but who came to the Trek fandom extremely late, it's hard to believe that this precedent was set right back in the beginning and thoroughly ignored by so many copyright holders ever since. Fandom makes money, not takes money, and it's about time that this message should sink in.

List five of your own stories that you love the most. Not the five best, but the ones that mean something to you.
5. We Go Together - Grease, Danny/Kenickie. Because it's Grease and because I put so much more effort and research into it than I normally did.
4. Think About You - Comfest 2000. This is not a 'best' piece at all. It's a bunch of men acting like women, it's full of clichés, it's melodramatic and by god I love it :D Every time I re-read it, it puts the silliest smile on my face.
3. But Only In Our Dreams - Harry Potter, Draco/Bellatrix. This one was a remix of another writer's piece, and it was something I never would have written on my own. Somehow, despite this, it became one of the pieces I'm most proud of.
2. Like a Child - Backstreet Boys/*NSYNC, Nick/Justin & AJ/Howie. It's not an original concept, and it's enormously fluffy, but I had so much fun writing it and re-reading it recently still made me just as happy as it did way back when.
1. Best Enemies - Okay, so that's not so much a story as a series, but I'm not sure how I could pick one from the whole. Harry Potter, Harry/Draco, and it was my baby... to the point that I couldn't write it any more because I was so worried I'd ruin it.

[065-068] Star Trek TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before" - quotes

The colouring and lighting in this episode is quite different (and rather less attractive) than that of the rest of the series. Still, I guess it makes these look appropriately 1960s ;)

(A post on the K/S comm reminded me that I'd meant to post this yonks ago.)
The Book: Star Trek Academy: Collision Course, by William Shatner with Judith Reeves-Stevens and Garfield Reeves-Stevens
The Review: I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from this, but I ended up really enjoying it. Not so sure about the whole "Stretch" thing, but it was a believable enough take on teenage!Jim and teenage!Spock, with an interesting story to tie it all together.
The Fannish Stuff: Good exploration of a possible beginning to Kirk and Spock's friendship. There's not much slashiness here, but they are only seventeen and nineteen respectively. The key is really the development over the book of their understanding of each other, with the visible beginning of the way they'd later complement each other perfectly.
